For over a century, the South Australian Museum has been deeply involved in and committed to the collection, study, display and interpretation of Indigenous cultures in the Australasian region.
Yuendumu doors, Paddy Japaljarri Stewart, 1987The South Australian Museum conducts research into the cultural geography of Aboriginal Australia, Aboriginal linguistics, Australian ethnobotany, Aboriginal material culture and the history of the artefact collectors. While retaining a strong regional focus upon South Australia, current anthropological research is also being conducted across Central Australia and in northern Queensland.
