Reverend Meyer began work at the Lutheran Mission at Cooper's Creek, South Australia, in 1875, as a teacher. Following his ordination in 1878, he served at the Killalpaninna Mission as both teacher and minister until 1885. He died in 1912 in Tanunda, South Australia. The Meyer collection in the South Australian Museum Archives comprises a vocabulary of Dieri words collected during Meyer's time at Killalpaninna Mission.
