Commonwealth Department of Information (AA 483)

Commonwealth Department of Information

The Commonwealth Department of Information (1939-1950) was created to, inter alia, assemble, censor and diseminate photographs for public relations and morale maintenance amongst the population at large. It was a central office function which was managed by the states through an unidentified local unit.

The South Australian Museum Archives contains black and white copy prints, many of which were published, from the South West Pacific area of operations collected by Wing Commander Norman Barnett Tindale (AA 338) in 1945.
