Carl Friedrich Alexander Schramm studied at the Berlin Acadamy of Arts producing a genre of paintings and portraits in oil, water colour and chalk. After he arrived in Australia in 1849, Schramm became a student of Australian scenery and the manners and customs of the Australian Aboriginal people.
