In 2002 the South Australian Museum launched the Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize to highlight the strong links between art, science and the natural world. Since then 12 overall prizes have been awarded to diverse pieces of art reflecting themes of conservation, ecology, taxonomy, evolution, plant and animal biology, biodiversity and climate change.

Science & Art: 12 years of the Waterhouse Prize is a retrospective exhibition that will display each of the overall winning works, paired with material from the collections of the South Australian Museum, National Archives of Australia, the State Herbarium of South Australia and State Records of South Australia to delve further into the science behind the art.

The Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize is currently undergoing a review and the competition will return in 2016.

Free exhibition, on display at the South Australian Museum from 5 June until 19 July 2015.
