Winterbotham, Lindsey Page (AA 377)

Died: 20 February 1960, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Medical practitioner and anthropologist, Winterbotham married Constance Mary Moore in 1912. Appointed Captain, he served in the Australian Medical Corps militia during World War I. Winterbotham interviewed and corresponded with many Australian Aboriginal people, publishing and lecturing on cultural practices and songs. In 1948 he donated his collection of artefacts to the University of Queensland and was made Honorary Curator of their Ethnological Museum.

The South Australian Museum Archives contains Winterbotham's manuscript 'Some native customs and beliefs on the Jinibara and neighbouring tribes, on the Brisbane River, Queensland' and related correspondence with Norman Tindale (AA 338)
