Years 6-9: Mawson and Minerals Trail

Students’ ideas on how rocks and minerals are formed can be enriched as they follow the evidence that Mawson found to explain South Australia’s geological history. Students can see a selection of the  variety of mineral specimens represented in the Museum’s collection.

We can provide a facilitated hands-on session with a Museum Educator so that students can handle examples of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks as well as different minerals. to support their learning.  Sessions have limited availability and bookings are essential.

Please note:  The gallery formerly known as the Mawson Gallery has recently (late 2017) and is now called the Australian Polar Collections Gallery.  We are in the process of reviewing and updating the education resources to ensure they reflect the new gallery content and layout.

During this process, we will continue to provide access to the exsiting resources (such as the trail below) however they may no longer precisely match your teaching and learning needs and should be used with that in mind.
