Following the article in The Advertiser titled ‘State Budget 2019: $60m for Aboriginal Art and Cultures Gallery on site of old RAH’, the South Australian Museum issues the following statement:
The South Australian Museum supports Premier Steven Marshall’s vision for the proposed Aboriginal Art and Culture Gallery and are delighted to see the commitment in the forward budget. The Museum welcomes further discussions with communities, other State institutions and organisations like Tandanya on developing this nationally significant cultural landmark. The new development will allow the South Australian Museum to showcase its world-class collection of Aboriginal cultural material and create greater opportunities for it to be shared with Aboriginal communities and the public.
Mr Brian Oldman, Director of the South Australian Museum says,
“The South Australian Museum is excited to be part of this unique project and supports Premier Marshall’s vision to create a new cultural destination that is a national focal point for Aboriginal culture. Adelaide is fortunate to have cultural institutions with collections that are of such high quality and we look forward to working together, and with Aboriginal communities across the nation, to create a space that allows us to share and celebrate these extraordinary collections”.
