The Science Centre
Come and see what our scientists, curators, collection managers, preparators and numerous students and volunteers are up to in the museum’s Division of Science.
Skeleton of elephant 'Miss Siam'
The Science Centre opened to visitors in March 2003 and is the first such centre in Australia. It gives visitors a snapshot of the systems used to store specimens, ethnographic and historical material. It is also a dynamic, working environment for the museum's science team.
Behind the Scenes at the Museum
Visitors can book to view the museum's comprehensive archives as well as the Mawson Centre.
There are over 50 scientists, curators, collection managers, preparators, administrators, students and volunteers working in the museum's Division of Science. Museum science staff are engaged in research, documentation and illumination of the diversity of the natural world and the lives of past and present peoples.
Access for visitors has been designed to create a focus on self-guided interpretation and research.
