Violet Mace joined her cousin Maude Poynter at Ratho Studio, Bothwell (Tasmania) to learn pottery between 1920 and 1935. She attended the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in London between 1925 and 1929.
She visited Hermannsburg in 1934, and had some contact with Rev. Friedrich Wilhelm Albrecht (AA 4), who provided (at her request) a sketch book of Albert Namatjira drawings and loose drawings by Ferdinand, Gordon, Emos, Marion, and Malarana all dated 1934.
Some of her pottery works featured a variety of Australian Aboriginal people and their culture.
Some pottery and woven baskets donated by Violet Mace are also held by the museum.
