Opening times & location

The Museum is open every day from 10am–5pm, including weekends and all public holidays except Christmas Day and Good Friday. We open at 12 noon on ANZAC Day (25 April).

The Museum Café is open 10am-4pm daily, including weekends.

The Coffee Caravan is open from 8am Monday-Friday.

The Museum Shop is open 10am-4.45pm daily, including weekends.

The Discovery Centre is open from 10:30am-2:30pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Discovery Centre is currently unable to accept any donations or specimens for identification; if you have an object that needs identification, visit our ID FAQs page.

Facilities & tours

We are not able to offer group or guided tours or accommodate external tour groups at this time.

In the meantime, our Front of House staff will happily recommend some alternative self-guiding options for your visit.

Access & inclusion

The South Australian Museum is dedicated to ensuring that all visitors have an enjoyable experience at the Museum. If you need any assistance during your visit, please ask our friendly front of house staff.

The Museum is fully wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair can also be booked with our security staff for use within the Museum. All exhibits within the Museum can be accessed with a lift available to all levels.

The Museum Café offers an imaginative menu of locally sourced ingredients and house-made products, designed to showcase South Australia’s finest produce.

Did you know the Museum has a takeaway offering? Our Coffee Caravan trades from North Terrace to meet all your takeaway coffee, morning tea and lunch needs.

The Museum Shop is a destination for books, educational toys, homewares, jewellery and gifts you won’t find anywhere else.

The Museum Shop offers an exciting range of carefully curated products that are inspired by the Museum's diverse collections.
