Ngadlu tampinthi ngadlu Kaurna Miyurna yartangka. Munaintya puru purruna ngadlu-itya. Munaintyanangku yalaka tarrkarriana tuntarri.

We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.

Cultural Sensitivity Warning
It is a condition of use of the cultural components of the Museum Archives that users ensure that any disclosure of information contained in this collection is consistent with the views and sensitivities of Indigenous people. Users are warned that there may be words and descriptions that may be culturally sensitive and which might not normally be used in certain public or community contexts. Users should also be aware that some records document research into people and cultures using a scientific research model dating from the first half of the twentieth century, and depicts people as research subjects in ways which may today be considered offensive. Some records contain terms and annotations that reflect the author's attitude or that of the period in which the item was written, and may be considered inappropriate today in some circumstances. Users should be aware that in some Indigenous communities, hearing names of deceased persons might cause sadness or distress, particularly to the relatives of these people. Furthermore, certain totemic symbols may also have prohibitions relating to the age, initiation and ceremonial status or clan of the person who may see them. Records included may be subject to access conditions imposed by Indigenous communities and/or depositors. Users are advised that access to some materials may be subject to these terms and conditions that the Museum is required to maintain.

Quantity 1cm,   4   items, one photograph album and 3 loose prints
ArrangedNumerical
Series IdentifierAA1/04

This series comprises 27 black and white (b/w) photographic prints. Twenty-four prints are mounted in a brown cardboard photograph album, 20.5 x 15.5 x 1 cm. Three loose prints are copies of image AA 1/4/7. All the photographs appear to relate to Point McLeay in South Australia. Some of these prints are also represented in Series AA 1/3 and AA 1/5. The photographs include some well known individuals including Rev. G Taplin (see AA 319) and David Unaipon (see AA 486).

The brown cardboard album is labelled on the inside back cover 'Made In Australia By Harringtons LTD. No. 200'. The album is very fragile. The album and loose prints are stored in a binder titled 'AA 1 Aborigines' Friends' Association (AFA) Photographic Prints, Album 1 of 4', which also holds series AA 1/3 and part of AA 1/5. All place names and proper names from the annotations and captions have been indexed. Note that some items show unidentified people and places.

Photograph block numbers have been written in pencil next to some photographs. The individual photographs in the album are numbered with an extra control number; the first photograph was labelled AA 1/4/1/1, the second AA 1/4/1/2 and so on. For the purposes of inclusion in this database this extra number has been omitted hence the photographs are now numbered using AA 1/4/1, AA 1/4/2, and so on.

This series was described by South Australian Museum archivist Kay L Mead in 1980. In her listing she recorded captions for some of the photographs from the publication Australian Aborigines. The edition of Australian Aborigines from which the captions were copied has not been located but the captions have been retained in the inventory for each photograph in the 'Details' field.

The series was part of Acc. No. 86.

This series contains references to South Australia.

This item includes reference to the following named group: 'Narrinyeri'.
