AA 161/1 comprises photographs, nitrate negatives and glass negatives donated by Johnston to the South Australian Museum.

This series also includes a detailed listing and set of contact prints of Johnston's photographic collection which was donated to the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies by Johnston's grand-daughter in the 1980s.
