This series contains a variety of linguistic materials utilised by Tindale for research purposes.
The first part of the series, AA 338/9/1, contains source materials, including those previously published by other people and those remaining in manuscript form but gathered by others, to whichTindale added his own observations. Much of the material dates from the nineteenth century, and thus reflects Tindale's interest in Australia's early contact period. The vocabularies relate to a variety of regions in South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales.
The second part of the series, AA 338/9/2, contains linguistic source materials, both published and manuscript, which do not contain Tindale's annotated observations. Finally, the third part of the series, AA 338/9/3, contains a variety of linguistic papers and research notes, including orthographic notes, correspondence, and working notes.
