Continuation from page 181 (AA122/3/3/1) on his visit to Vierberg’s [Verburg's] garden. Inspected the train line rails and sleepers and determined that the train rails were of German origin each rail being marked ‘Krupps, 1883’. The rail sleepers were wooden, not iron, as no termites in the vicinity but the wood had perished and most of the dog bolts loose. Before embarking on a trip through a ‘Wonderland of Australian tropical bush’ with Mathieson [Duncan Neil] Mathieson (1891-1979) they collect a case of oranges, lemons and mandarins.
