Pages 1 to 49 are a carbon copy of the journal. Pages 50 to 51 contain pencil sketches of stone tools. This carbon copy does not have a front cover page. A probable explanation is that both the typescript (see AA 338/4/34) and carbon copies were removed from the same Ilford X-Ray film box. The pages are numbered with journal page numbers typed in the left margins. Includes hand-drawn sketches, a typed press notice of the expedition, Aranda, Kukatja, Pintubi and Ngalia plant lists, drawings of specimens and documentation. Makes reference to Olive Pink and Carl Strehlow (see AA 315).
The Expedition was financed by the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research in New York and the University of Adelaide.
The expedition party included Dr Dudley Packer (anthropologist), Prof. John Burton Cleland (blood sample collection and plant and bird study, see AA 60), Mr John R Casely-Smith (blood samples), Mr Geoffrey S Heithersay (dental), Peter Kempster (technician), Prue Kriewalt (cook), Jeff (driver) and Norman Barnett Tindale (anthropologist). Prof. Andrew Arthur Abbie (see AA 688) joined the party later.
Tindale Tribes: Pintubi; Aranda; Ngalia; Kukatja (NT); Pitjandjara; Jumu; Ngadadjara.
