Drawer 1 of 2. This drawer consists of two sections. The first contains a Ra:mindjeri to English vocabulary (33 cm) drawn from Heinrich August Eduard Meyer's Vocabulary of the language spoken by the Aborigines of the southern and eastern portions of the settled districts of South Australia',1843 . Although the cards have Ra:mindjeri head words, they are filed alphabetically according to the English gloss. Note that the odd card draws from later literature and Tindale manuscript sources, and that there are a few blank cards.
The cards in the second section (6.5 cm) contain Encounter Bay words extracted from William Wyatt's Vocabulary of the Adelaide and Encounter Bay Tribes (in JD Woods The Native Tribes of South Australia, 1879, pp. 169-181).
Note that Tindale has retranscribed the words drawn from Meyer according to his preferred orthographic system, but that words drawn from Wyatt remain as in the original.
