We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.

Cultural Sensitivity Warning
It is a condition of use of the cultural components of the Museum Archives that users ensure that any disclosure of information contained in this collection is consistent with the views and sensitivities of Indigenous people. Users are warned that there may be words and descriptions that may be culturally sensitive and which might not normally be used in certain public or community contexts. Some records contain terms and annotations that reflect the author's attitude or that of the period in which the item was written, and may be considered inappropriate today in some circumstances. Users should be aware that in some Indigenous communities, hearing names of deceased persons might cause sadness or distress, particularly to the relatives of these people. Furthermore, certain totemic symbols may also have prohibitions relating to the age, initiation and ceremonial status or clan of the person who may see them. Records included may be subject to access conditions imposed by Indigenous communities and/or depositors. Users are advised that access to some materials may be subject to these terms and conditions that the Museum is required to maintain.

Archive Collections / Board for Anthropological Research / Series AA346/05 / Mornington Island (Queensland) and Doomadgee (Queensland) genealogies, 1963
'Genealogies Mornington Island Queensland 16 May - 3 July 1963. Expedition symbol AM.'

This bound volume contains genealogies collected on Mornington Island (Queensland) in May and June 1963 and Doomadgee (Queensland) in July 1963 (Board for Anthropological Research expedition AM). The genealogies were collected by NB Tindale (see AA 338).

The genealogies generally show more than two generations, and include a range of information, from names, age or birthdate, place of birth, to notes on personal history such as place of residence. They are recorded on double foolscap sheets. Genealogies have the place at and date on which the data was recorded written on the top left hand corner. Individual subject numbers are also recorded, and these can be used to refer back to the data cards collected on the expedition (see AA 346/4/24).

The volume contains genealogies collected at:

  • Mornington Island (Queensland)
    Genealogy sheets 1 to 55a

  • Doomadgee (Queensland)
    Genealogy sheets 56 to 76.

Each group of genealogies is followed by a name index. The volume also contains a list of 'People Measured at Mornington Island' and some general notes.
