Begins with general comments on policies and practices including rights, housing, education, assimilation policies, Aboriginal capabilities. Survey of states Street visited and her impressions:

  • Western Australia where Mrs MM Bennett in Kalgoorlie has been proposing changes to policies and practices for many years. Visited Karrawang Mission, St Francis Xavier, Mogumba and New Norcia Missions which also have boarding schools but no post school training or assistance. Discusses housing, reserves, Pindan Cooperative in Port Hedland, Derby missions and leprosarium.

  • Northern Territory: Darwin, Bagot Settlement, leprosarium, Alice Springs, the Bungalow, Jay Creek, Areyonga, Haasts Bluff, Warrabri and Hermannsburg. Haslucks's NT Welfare Ordinance, 1953 discussed.

  • South Australia: visited Pt Pearce and Pt McLeay

  • NSW and Victoria Street did not visit any Reserves or Missions.

  • Did not visit Queensland.

  • No people recorded in Tasmania.
