Albert was brought up as a Christian under Carl Strehlow (See AA 315). Could not keep the money he earned, but spent it, would not take advice. Hermannsburg authority was undermined and eventually the mission asked for control of the artists to be transferred to Alice Springs under the Welfare Branch, but couldn't control Albert's spending or selling his paintings privately. Heavy drinking by Namatjira and other men in his camp, many of whom came from Hermannsburg. Examples of people who died or were injured as a result of drinking excessively.
