'House of Teringa Kuri. Kaiwarawara.'

Original Watercolour
There is one original watercolour within this frame.

Notes: This house belongs to the Kaiwharwhara Chief Taringa-Kuri (Dog-Ear). The maihi (sloping barge boards) are unadorned other than the carved figure attached to the house's apex. The maihi are supported by two carved figures, the one on the right wearing a European hat. The porch area is also unadorned with a doorway and window surrounded by raupo reed paneling. Taringa-Kuri is depicted seated in the forefront of the image wearing a kahu kuri (dog skin cloak). He has a moko (traditional Maori facial tattoo) and a mere pounamu (greenstone hand club). To the left side of the house is a portion of the fortified fence.
