Notes: Both women are seated in the interior of a whare (house) on woven whariki (mat) wearing korowai-ngore (cloak) that features dyed twisted black thrumbs. The younger woman behind wears a kauwae (traditional Maori woman's chin tattoo) and has a shark tooth and greenstone (nephrite jade) ear pendant. The older women has a shark tooth ear pendant made from greenstone in her left ear and a shark tooth ear pendant in the right. Only her bottom lip is tattooed. The pair are surrounded by woven kete (basket) and three poha (pod) or large vessels made from bull kelp used to store sperm whale oil hang on the back wall.
