Notes: Muriwhenua (John King) is the son of Tawhi chief of Ngati Mahuta. He has a moko (traditional Maori facial tattoo) and stands holding a tewhatewha (long handled fighting staff). His personal adornment includes a greenstone (nephrite jade) ear pendant and strands of blue beads worn around his neck. He is wrapped in a yellow and black tagged cape referred to as tihetihe. His sister Mekameka stands to his right with feathers in her hair and ngore (cloak) made with woollen pompoms and fringing. Muriwhenua's wife Haea is seated and wrapped in a ngore-paheke (cloak) that consists of woollen stitching in the cloaks base and fringing. She wears a garland of flowers in her hair. A portion of a palisade fence is seen behind.
