After five years of captivating visitors and more than 25,000 players, The Shadow Initiation at the South Australian Museum is set to conclude its remarkable run.
This innovative, Museum-wide escape game, a first of its kind in Australia, will draw to a close on 31 October 2024.
A collaboration between the Museum and Adelaide developer Adventure Mode, The Shadow Initiation has been a trailblazer in interactive museum experiences. Both partners are particularly proud of this project, which not only introduced a new dimension to museum engagement but also highlighted the Museum's commitment to innovation.
By integrating escape game elements with the Museum’s iconic collections, The Shadow Initiation successfully brought a fresh, dynamic approach to exploring historical artefacts. As the final date approaches, visitors have one last opportunity to experience this unique, tablet-led adventure, appropriate for anyone aged 7 to 107 years!
Though The Shadow Initiation concludes in October, there is still, of course, oodles to do at the Museum. Across five floors, the institution has endless history and objects to discover.
Permanent galleries include the South Australian Biodiversity, Pacific Cultures, Megafauna, Opalised Fossils, Polar, Ediacaran, Minerals, and the Ancient Egyptian Room. Did we mention the 11m long model of a giant squid, displayed in an old lift shaft over four floors?
The ever-popular Discovery Centre on level one contains a wealth of information and many drawers to open and explore, including a much-loved working beehive. It’s open from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, and weekends.
Meanwhile, our latest exhibition showcases the winning and finalist pics from the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition. See nature up-close through stunning images by professional, emerging and junior photographers who have captured incredible moments in time.
