Norman Barnett Tindale was a member of the Board for Anthropological Research (BAR) Expedition party that left for Koonibba on 12 August 1928 (see AA 338/1/5). This was his first field trip with the Board and his duties included recording genealogical and ethnological data on indigenous groups of the area, and photography. The expedition party that was led by Professor John Burton Cleland (see AA 60) included: Professor Edward Harold Davies (who was responsible for songs recording, see AA 70), Dr Robert Henry Pulleine (physiology, see AA 259), Thomas Draper Campbell see AA 52, Dr A Moore, Cedric Stanton Hicks (physiology, basal metabolism), E Eldridge (Hick’s assistant technician), RF Matters (basal metabolism), ML Mitchell (physiology), HH Woollard (physical anthropologist), FA Jeffery (photography / cinematography), AK Macbeth (physical anthropologist) and Pastor C Hoff (superintendent of the Koonibba Lutheran Mission who assisted the expedition party).

Tindale. August 1928 Adelaide, S. Australia' (AA 338/1/5). Over the period of approximately two weeks, the party visited various locations including Koonibba, Davenport Creek, Penong and Yardea.
