Item AA 338/5/9 consists of three volumes of photographic images acquired by Norman Barnett Tindale during the 1933 Board for Anthropological Research (BAR) Expedition to Mann, Musgrave Ranges and Ernabella. The images are supplementary to Tindale's 'Journal of an Anthropological Expedition to the Mann and Musgrave Ranges, North West of South Australia, May - July 1933, and a personal record of the Anthropological expedition to Ernabella, Aug. 1933, by Norman B. Tindale. Adelaide 1933' (AA 338/1/9).

The photographs are taken among the Australian Aboriginal Western Desert groups such as Pitjandjara, Jangkundjara and Antakirinja people. The images are focused on hunting and food gathering and preparation; the search for water; camp scenes; leisure time and travelling. The third volume contains images depicting ceremonies, relevant geographical places and rock art that are restricted to men only.

The images predominantly appear in the format of b/w photographic prints. However, a few b/w slides as well as contact prints and acetate negatives are included.
