An important center during the building of the Trans-Australian Railway. A wonderful supply of water was found about 60 feet deep and this supply enabled the construction of the railway for hundreds of miles (500 at times). It is also the mail starting point for the opal fields and pastoral areas. Situated 209 miles from Port Augusta.'
